In one of our most exciting partnerships to date, Weidenhammer has teamed up with the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and St. Luke’s University Health Network to redesign and develop a site for their community health challenge, Tail on the Trail. The challenge encourages Lehigh Valley Residents to walk miles on the Delaware & Lehigh trail as a way to become more active and improve their overall health. This challenge, which has had thousands of past participants, allow teams to explore the trail while also adding more weekly exercise to their routine. The challenge is undertaken by individuals, families, companies, and community groups alike.
The website redesign was a very involved project that had to weave together the interests of the two partner organizations while also updating the look to something modern and engaging. The design also had to take into consideration design elements that run throughout the series of four other websites designed for the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. Inspiration, especially for the user dashboard, was taken from other fitness tracking apps, which used ‘tiles’ to display different information metrics. To keep the look unique and fresh, custom graphics were used to enhance certain tiles, like most used type of exercise.
From a development perspective, this was an extremely complicated build. Fully responsive, the site had to not only serve as a way to inform users about upcoming events, but also as a way to register users, display challenge statistics, and be useful for the administrators at St. Luke’s. This lead to the development of several different types of landing pages and types of administrative page. We were sure to ensure that even on ‘internal’ pages only seen by team leaders and administrators were still designed to be easy to use and visually appealing.
Of the build, Weidenhammer’s Project Manager, Emily Poché, says “We were so glad to partner with the Delaware & Lehigh Trail again. Joining forces with them and St. Lukes gave us the opportunity to get to work on a totally different type of website. I’m happy that we got to produce something that has advanced functionality while still looking great. This is a great example of the things we can do as a company, and I’m sure we’ll have people signing up for the challenge from our own team.”
